What is PLA?

PLA (Polylactic Acid) is essentially the default, all-purpose plastic used for the vast majority of 3D prints.

If you’ve ever held a standard 3D printed item, it was almost certainly made of PLA.

One of the coolest things about it is that it’s made from plants, mostly from cornstarch or sugarcane rather than petroleum, making it a much more eco-friendly option than traditional plastics.
It’s also our most budget-friendly option and comes in almost any color or finish you can think of, including matte, glossy, and metallic. It is the perfect choice for display models, visual prototypes, cosplay gear, and everyday items that live safely indoors.
The main thing to keep in mind is that PLA does not like high heat. It can begin to droop and deform at around 140°F (60°C).
